The goal with this video was to keep it short and sweet, while at the same time be deliberate about what I’m trying to convey. In this case, I thought what better way to do than to outline the process of signing up for a WordPress.com account, which in itself does not take long to do.
The steps of signing up takes literally just as many shots that are seen. Five shots in total. No fancy transitions.
SHOT #1: I start by doing a push in towards my laptop. The homepage seen here is the WordPress.com homepage — the beginning of every new user’s journey into getting signed up.
SHOT #2: After establishing the scene in the first shot, I punch in a little closer and do a simple pan right.
SHOT #3: Slight spiral push in. I’m not even sure if that’s the correct terminology but that’s what I call it, it makes sense right? Here we get to the user sign up page.
SHOT #4: We get a glimpse at the next step, which is to choose a domain name for the site. Looking back on this, I think this is the point where the pacing became a little too fast for my liking. I also felt I should have changed the angle of the shot to something else.
SHOT #5: The final shot shows the “Start with a free site” link getting clicked, which then leads to the next screen where you can see the WordPress logo animate its way onto the page. Again, I felt I should have switched up the angle. I think a more central/centered shot would have been appropriate.
Finally, I do a cross dissolve transition into the last shot which is a line of basic text, a CTA to “Get started with WordPress.com.” And yeah, I realized I lied, I used one transition. It was a stock transition though ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I honestly did not plan this one out in detail, and it was more of a spur of the moment type shoot. I had an idea and thought “oh, this might be cool to try, let’s just do it.” And so I did it.
This is the first of an ongoing self-challenge to create b-roll content for 30 days. I must emphasize the absence of the phrase “consecutive days”. If this were the case, then I would have already failed this challenge. But I am committed to seeing this through! If you’re interested, follow my tag #30DaysOfBRoll on my blog here.
I also have a YouTube channel, which is where I will be uploading my videos respectively. If you wanted to keep tabs on that, please do subscribe here! These associated blog posts will most likely be delayed a bit after publishing my videos. So by subscribing to the channel, you’ll have a sneak peak at what I might be publishing next on the blog.
Thanks for reading! I’ll see you in the next one.
